Jeez, it seems like it's been forever since I've written something about Dave Mustaine. It's been about two years since Mustaine's right-wing renaissance period where he showed for his support for Santorum, was anti-gay marriage, told African women to put a plug in it and said that he knows Obama wasn't born in America.
Things have calmed down a bit, and Mustaine recently was a guest on Jay Mohr's podcast, Mohr Stories. MetalSucks has a solid writeup with some choice quotes including “I keep my beliefs really personal and private.” Dave, if that was true, we wouldn't have an entire section of the site dedicated to the loony things you say.
The most choice quote is when Mustaine was asked about his religion:
“I think being a Christian has a bad name. I think that when you say you’re a Christian, people think that you’re anti-gay, which I’m not. I’m not gay, so… When the question came up that started all this, someone had said ‘What do you think I think about gay rights?”, and I said, “Dude, I’m a heterosexual man, I’m married. The gay rights fight doesn’t have anything to do with me.’ So, being a shitty station up in… well I won’t say where it’s at… the guy said that I was anti-gay, and I’m not.”
Hmm, I seem not to recall Dave saying "it's not my fight" when asked, but guess what? I can just go and check the audio of the conversation in question at around 6:38:
Hmmm, sounds like when he was asked if he supported gay marriage, his direct quote was "I’m Christian. The answer to that would be no."
Look, you could argue that being anti-gay marriage and being anti-gay are two different things, but I find it hard to believe there is any line there. Additionally, if Mustaine labels himself pro-gay then he would be FOR gays having THE SAME RIGHTS AS heterosexual people who choose to couple.
