Tech-Death Tuesday: Chaotic Brutalizers DELIQUESCE Embrace Our Universally Engineered Frailty

Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

Once again a release from earlier this year just came to my attention and it really deserves to be covered. Given how fucking sick Engineered Frailty from Deliquesce is, I'm stunned more people haven’t covered this or highlighted it across social media. Once again, I have the internet to thank for finding them, Afterbirth made a post about them yesterday morning and I've already spun it over ten times at this point.

Musically, Engineered Frailty calls to mind old Suffocation with a bit of Dying Fetus, Cryptopsy, along with the chaotic and dark assault of Wormed thrown in. In a roundabout way, the way Deliquesce applies a more modern twisted and complex edge to Suffocation style technical brutal death metal, specifically Effigy of the Forgotten and Pierced From Within-era sounding ideas here, somehow really reminds me of Severed Savior and Defeated Sanity in the best possible way.

Given that Disentomb bassist and Involuntary Convulsion member Adrian Cappelletti is the driving force on Engineered Frailty handling guitar and bass duties, you know this is going to be a damn good time. More importantly, Deliquesce definitely does this style very creatively and expertly and their face-melting mix of old and new styles is so much fun to get lost in. At just seven minutes long, this four-song demo is a lean and destructive outing that leaves you wanting more. As always, I'm a huge fan of quality releases with zero filler and endless killer ideas and that's exactly what you get with Engineered Frailty. Kicking off opener "Eviscerated Through Flames" with an Event Horizon quote is a prescient foreshadowing of the maniacal aural hell that awaits you.

This is a riff feast type release, made even better thanks to chunky audible bass playing that adds a lot to this release ad it's often hard to hear the bass in a lot of brutal death metal. You could classify some of this as old school in nature, but there are a fair bit of modern influences. The old-school vibe comes through clearest in the assuredly old-school death metal-inspired gritty and somewhat raw sounding production.

I’m really excited to hear what Deliquesce does next given the quality of Engineered Frailty from start to finish. The release is embedded below for you to check out if you haven’t heard it yet. If you like the release it can be ordered via Bandcamp. You can follow the group over on the Deliquesce Facebook Page.
