Shining, the Norwegian one with the saxophone, has had a pretty interesting career trajectory. The band has slowly been moving away from its jazzier roots toward a more rock-heavy sound, and "Everything Dies" seems like the tipping point. "Everything Dies" really goes heavy on the big, pummeling rock riffs, and not so much in the way of the Zappa-esque jazz that fans had fallen in love with over the years.
It's a fairly ballsy move, considering Shining's popularity steadily increased over the years due to that very sound, but who knows – maybe the new stuff will drive them right into the limelight. So what do you think? Is Shining headed in the right direction with its new stuff? Are you looking forward to a new album reportedly out in Spring 2018?
