German purveyors of all things psych Kadavar is back with a new record I Just Want To Be A Sound due out May 16, and a truly trippy single of the same name streaming right now. Kadavar in 2025 is founders Lupus Lindemann and Tiger Bartelt alongside guitarist Jascha Kreft and bassist Simon "Dragon" Bouteloup. On the name of the record, it all came from Bouteloup. When Lindemann and Bartelt asked him in 2013 why he didn't have any social media accounts, he replied: "I just want to be a sound." Pretty cool!
"'I Just Want To Be A Sound' is more than a song to us – it's the essence of Kadavar: A relentless yearning for freedom and the unshakable urge to live through music. We poured everything into it – our lives, our spirit, our truth," said Kadavar of the single.
This week the band was announced as part of the 2025 Austin Psych Fest Lineup, along with artists like Dinosaur Jr, Explosions In The Sky, Kim Gordon, Yo La Tengo and more.
