AMON AMARTH's JOHAN HEGG Names The METALLICA Songs He Would Love To Cover

It's a winner.

Amon Amarth-16

Metallica covers aren't rare—in fact the band themselves curated a near-triple album of covers from The Black Album by countless artists to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the album. But it is a rare treat when we get to hear other fantastic bands talk about their favorite songs from the Kings of Metal. Such is the case in a recent chat with Amon Amarth's Johan Hegg, when he was asked what Metallica song he'd love to cover with Amon Amarth while chatting with RadioactiveMike Z, host of the 96.7 KCAL-FM radio program Wired In The Empire.

"I think one of my absolute favorite songs that I would love to do that I think would make an awesome death metal song, as well, is 'The Thing That Should Not Be.' I love that song. But otherwise… 'Trapped Under Ice'—awesome song as well. 'Fight Fire With Fire'—also a brilliant song; My favorite Metallica album is Ride The Lightning through and through, so that would probably be one of the songs from there. But I think "The Thing That Should Not Be" could be an awesome death metal song, actually, because it's so heavy."

The full interview with Hegg and Mike Z can be heard below via Soundcloud.

Hegg also added a little bit of history by sharing one of his own personal memories of seeing Metallica live.

"It's interesting 'cause I think Metallica did a tour… where they asked the fans what they wanted to hear… And in Sweden that song came up reallyreally high, so they actually played it live in Sweden, and I loved it. So that was awesome."

In other Amon Amarth news, the band is now streaming their cinematic music-meets-lyric video for "Oden Owns You All." The video was directed by Phil Wallis and is in support of the latest Amon Amarth record The Great Heathen Armyavailable here. You can also catch Amon Amarth on the road at one of their remaining dates with ObituaryCarcass, and Cattle Decapitation.
