Someone should really tell Behemoth frontman Nergal that 2006 is over, because the dude still thinks there's emo kids out there. Maybe that's a little bit of a stretch in terms of criticism, but growing up in the early and mid-2000s, talking about metal "destroying" emo kids seems to have died at least 10 years ago.
Yet here we are. Nergal says in a new interview with Consequence Of Sound that "10 seconds of the new Behemoth album would probably kill 100 emo kids." He also says he "can’t think of any other extreme metal band that would include the word ‘love’ in a title" and he "can’t think of any extreme metal band using a Jesus Christ quote to put on their album title.”
“Ten seconds of the new Behemoth album would probably kill 100 emo kids, and then another hundred, and another hundred, so by the end of the record, there’d be no emo kids in the world. So maybe we should encourage them to listen to the record!”
The new Behemoth album is certainly pretty good, but I think Nergal might be stretching it a bit when he's making it out to be the most extreme and uniquely blasphemous thing metal has ever seen.
