When Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi isn't becoming a professor at universities, he likes to sit in his studio and noodle around with ideas. Iommi announced on his website that some noodles have recently become more fruitful than others, namely one particular ditty that's going to be featured in an episode of the hit television drama CSI soon!
"People have been asking what exactly I’m doing at the moment, we’ll I’m getting back in the studio having tried to make myself rest after the tours. I’m writing, mostly just putting ideas down rather than complete songs. I like to create all sorts of moods with my music and then decide later how they might be used.
One specific piece though is for the CSI TV series that will be aired in the US on November 9th. I was asked if I’d be interested so I had a look at the footage and came up with an idea they seemed to like. It’s not very long but it was different working with images rather than just music, I’d certainly be up for doing more."
Seems like television is taking a liking to rock and metal more and more these days, huh? Black metal band Liturgy was just on the tube and the music of Pig Destroyer was featured on arguably the funniest scene ever of Workaholics, just to name a few examples. Actually, Sabbath themselves were on an episode of CSI last year to promote their new album. Though who knows! Maybe Iommi will surprise us with something ambient instead of metal.
Speaking of his recordings, I wonder what's up with the other stuff he's been jamming on? The obvious answer is Black Sabbath, but we haven't have a solo Iommi record since 2005…
