Underoath guitarist James Smith appears to have been let go from the band. According to Smith in an Instagram story, he was "informed" that he was no longer a member of the band and that this is "unfortunately where we have ended up." Smith originally played with the band between 2003 and 2013 until their breakup, and then played in the reformed version of the band between 2015 and present day.

"After 20 years of music and friendship, I was informed that I'm no longer a member of Underoath. This saddens me to say, but unfortunately is where we have ended up. I appreciate everyone who, at any moment in their lives, have felt inspired, accepted, comforted, and energized by the music we created and the shows we performed together.

"It has been my honor and privilege to be a part of your lives in that way though we may have never met or shared our stories face to face. Your dedication, grace, and love for this band have allowed us to exist this long. The memories I have from this ride are more than anyone could ever expect in a lifetime, and I genuinely thank you all for being a part of it."

Underoath has not yet commented on parting ways with Smith. Even stranger is that Underoath still has four dates with Periphery and Loathe left on their tour, specifically one happening tonight in Albuquerque, NM. So who knows what the band will do as far as replacing Smith live.

3/29 – Albuquerque, NM – The El Rey Theatre
3/31 – Oklahoma City, OK – The Diamond Ballroom
4/1 – Little Rock, AR – The Hall
4/2 – Nashville, TN – Marathon Music Works
