April 5th seems to be a shitty day for rock and roll. Kurt Cobain and Layne Stayley both died on this day (the latter of whom MetalSucks is paying tribute to all day) and we're saddened to learn that "the father of loud," Dr. Jim Marshall, the dude who invented those sweet sweet Marshall amplifiers, has died today at the age of 88. Marshall started his career selling drum kits, but eventually began building amplifiers. Marshall recently celebrated their 50th anniversary as a company.
Whenever I think of the Marshall brand, I just think of the endless stacks of Marshalls seen at a Slayer show. Rest In Peace, Mr. Marshall. Here are some touching tweets from musicians:
R.I.P. Jim Marshall. You were responsible for some of the greatest audio moments in music's history and 50% of all our hearing loss……

I have never been sadder than today. My dear friend and father figure Dr. Jim Marshall OBE has passed away. I am at a loss for words…

The news of Jim Marshall passing is deeply saddening. R & R will never be the same w/out him. But, his amps will live on FOREVER! \,,/,
