MARILYN MANSON Offers Injury Update: "The Pain Was Excruciating"

Manson is in a hard cast.

A New York City Marilyn Manson show was cut short when a piece of the set fell on Manson as he was performing "Sweet Dreams."  It looked like Manson grabbed onto the gun prop and slipped and was immediately crushed by the set piece. The music stopped and the show was cancelled shortly after. Video of the incident can be seen here. Photos from the show can be seen in our photo gallery.

Manson was taken to the hospital, as photos showed, and eventually he cancelled two weeks worth of shows and a few festival appearances. The cancellations proved this injury was no joke, as he told Yahoo! Music in a new interview. Manson notes that he wasn't trying to climb the collapsing set piece, he was trying to prevent it from falling:

“I wasn’t trying to climb it,” he says. “It started to fall and I tried to push back and I didn’t get out the way in time. I’m not sure what I hit my head on, but it did fall onto my leg and break the fibula in two places. The pain was excruciating. [..] It definitely could have crushed my skull and my rib. I have some minor bruising in that area, but it took six guys to pull it off of me. It was like wrestling a giant iron monster.”

Manson had a plate and 10 screws  inserted into the bone and another screw through his ankle bone. Manson has a solid cast and such an injury typically takes 12-16 weeks to recover from, in addition to a lot of physical therapy. Doctors inserted a plate and 10 screws into the bone, plus another screw through his ankle bone, then wrapped a solid cast around his leg. Manson confirmed he sprained his other ankle the night before, whilst falling off stage.

Manson, while being bummed he's not on the road, thinks everything happens for a reason:

“I think it was possibly the whole nature, God, whatever it might be — someone was trying to put a stop to things. If you believe in one thing, you gotta believe in the other power,” he jokes. “I don’t know if it was my excitement and disregard for being safe in the conventional sense — like I ever have been. You get me onstage and I just get so excited.”

“Because of the timing of it, it’s probably some part of a bigger plan that this was meant to happen, and I had to take that sacrifice in order for things to fall into place.”

Manson's new album, Heaven Upside Down, is out now. Here's our track-by-track review.
