CARCASS Is Working On "Substantially Different" New Tunes

it's not coming out any time soon, but new Carcass will be happening!

Carcass released Surgical Steel in 2013, much to the chagrin of its fans considering it had been nearly 20 years and Swansong was a very polarizing way for the group to leave off with everyone. Then in 2014 we got Surgical Remission / Surplus Steel, which was five songs that didn't get on 2013's Surgical Steel. While it sounds like the group won't be releasing something for the third consecutive year in 2015, guitarist Bill Steer says new material is coming along for an album in an interview with Rabid Noise (below):

"[There is] nothing concrete [in the works], though. It's really early stages. But Dan [drummer Daniel Wilding] and myself have got together a few times and blasted through some new tunes. And I'd imagine in the summer, when the festival season is on, we'll have a little bit of time during the weekdays to work on more stuff. And we'll just do it as we feel it, really.

"I couldn't tell you exactly when we'll start work proper in terms of recording, 'cause that's a long way off. And the one thing we don't wanna do is rush, because if we're gonna take the trouble to make a new album, it has to be worthwhile. We can't really just play it safe and do a similar kind of recipe to the previous record. It's got to be substantially different. Yeah, I guess we're just very aware of what the best use of [our] time is. And to make another album, it's something we'd love to do, but we're not gonna take it lightly, if you know what I mean."

I'm left wondering what could possibly be "substantially different" for Carcass. The group has done everything from gore grind to melodic death metal to thrashier, flat out death metal stuff… so this could be anything! I guess we'll see probably at some point in 2016. For now we're just left to our own speculative devices.
