Billy White Jr., the artist responsible for Guns N' Roses' classic cross logo on the cover of Appetite For Destruction, has died. Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash confirmed White's passing on his Instagram. White's cover for Appetite For Destruction replaced the original cover done by Robert Williams, which was deemed a little too spicy at the time. Mostly because of y'know, the implied robot rape.
And who hasn't seen White's artwork at this point? Appetite For Destruction has sold over 18 million copies in the United States alone, nearly 2 million in the UK, and 1 million in Canada. Coupled with a boatload of other European sales and it's safe to say that the world knows White's art very well, even if they might not know his name.
We wish the White family all the best at this time.
