Dave Lombardo seems like a man who knows what he's doing when it comes to being a successful musician. Dude's been in Slayer and Fantômas, currently gigs with Suicidal Tendencies, plays with Dead Cross, and may or may not continue on with Misfits depending on what happens.
So what advice does Lombardo have for all you young bands out there? Stop fucking things up by being so goddamn ungrateful! At least that's what he tells The Jasta Show. Lombardo says he feels like younger bands who aren't doing terribly, or at least are catching minor breaks, really don't appreciate the hand they've drawn, and that if you're not gonna be on board for the good and bad times, you might as well hang it up.
"You gotta appreciate those little moments so you appreciate the bigger ones, and don't take those for granted. Because you see a lot of guys today that have a fantastic band – they have everything they could have ever have asked for and fuck it up by being ungrateful pieces of shit!
"It's like, 'Really, dude! Come on! You have a band, you have your health, you have your life – what are you complaining about? Come on, you're living the dream! What the fuck are you complaining about? You fly business class, you have a fucking Prevost tour bus!'
"You know… *imitates a dumb voice* 'When will we retire?' Well, you were never meant to be a fucking musician in the first place. Go fucking find a stethoscope, and I don't know what the fuck… go to law school."
So there you have it – if you want to be in the business for close to 40 years, maybe just go with the flow and take success as it comes along.
