I wanted to make a Symphony of Destruction joke, but it's too easy.
I didn't think Mustaine had it in him to play some classical jams, but good on him for having those kinds of chops! According to the Megadeth site:
Dave Mustaine will be a featured soloist with the San Diego Symphony in April, 2014, in a program that will include Wagner‘s “Ride of the Valkyries” from “Die Walküre“, Vivaldi‘s “Winter” from “The Four Seasons” and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 (the “New World” Symphony). Executive director Edward “Ward” Gill said it’s all about reaching new audiences, while music director Jahja Ling said he had a good meeting with Mustaine, and he may conduct the concert himself (no conductor is listed at this point, and Mustaine‘s exact involvement is still being worked out).
Well that's pretty damn cool! I'm really hoping they tape it or something, because I'd absolutely love to see that. Great idea on behalf of the symphony too to get more people interested- metal heads love symphonies, and by virtue of me sitting down to write this article, they've done their jobs. Not that classical music isn't sweet by itself, but the added allure of Mustaine-based shred is always a plus. I'm also holding out the minuscule hope they'll jam on a few Megadeth tunes… though I'm not all that hopeful about it.
