DEF LEPPARD'S RICK ALLEN Says "It Didn't Take Much Persuasion" To Get MÖTLEY CRÜE Touring Again

Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen recently checked in with Rodrigo Altaf of the podcast Sonic Perspectives to give an update on all things related to The Stadium Tour—Def Leppard's world jaunt with the until-recently retired Mötley Crüe.

For those unaware, Mötley Crüe signed a "Cessation of Touring" agreement in 2014 and played what was then their final show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on December 31, 2015. Then in 2018, Mötley Crüe announced they were working on new music for the film adaptation of The Dirt and in December 2019 announced their (long-delayed) tour with Def Leppard for early 2020. So Mötley Crüe didn't exactly stay broken up for long, and according to Allen it didn't take much for that to happen.

"It's great touring with those guys," Allen said "We thought they were done. Then we asked them to come out with us, and it didn't take much persuasion to get them to get back out on the road. Now it's fantastic, because now we're seeing the friendship between Nikki [Sixx] and Tommy [Lee] is back where it was.

"For many years they just really didn't like each other, and I think for them to see things in hindsight and realize all the good that they've done, they realize that their legacy was intact. So it's great to be touring with those guys."

According to Billboard's year end recap, Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe grossed $173.4 million across 35 shows with 1.3 million attendees in 2022. Just this week, the pair announced another set of summer dates in the US for 2023, with the OG of them all, Alice Cooper, joining in on the fun.

You can check those dates out below. This comes on top of the news earlier this fall that The Stadium Tour will be going global in 2023, with stops all across the globe, and those dates are below, as well.
