Geoff Tate Is Over The Name QUEENSRYCHE, Will Now Refer To His Band As OPERATION MINDCRIME

It's a real crime.

It's a real crime.

In short, last year frontman Geoff Tate and Queensryche went their separate ways with neither party wanting to give up the namesake. So each continued on their path as Queensryche and even released albums under the name. Tate's version released Frequency Unknown to not much fanfare and Todd La Tore-fronted Queensryche released a self-titled which was pretty alright.

It's not like this hasn't happened before. Entombed is one that comes to mind, with the one version of the group having to change their name. Unfortunately they chose the name Entombed A.D., which makes sense considering they want people to know who they are, but maybe starting a new chapter and choosing a new name wouldn't be so bad. So in that regard, Tate has them beat. He did not choose to name his new band Queensryche B.C. or Queensryche A.D., or even Geoff Tate's Queensryche.

No, Tate did much worse.

Tate's new band is called Operation: Mindcrime after Queensryche's 1988 hit album of the same name. Nothing says not being able to let go of the past like naming your new band after a record you wrote with your old band over 25 years ago, right? At this point anyone who is interested in the music Geoff Tate will be making knows who Geoff Tate is. They don't need the band name to remind them "I was that dude from Queensryche." We know.

In related news, I'm quitting Metal Injection and starting my own site called Greg Kennelty's Metal Injection. It's super different and I feel like it'll establish me as an individual and not someone who is clinging to the past.
