Machine Head frontman and guitarist Robb Flynn recently revealed that drummer Dave McClain, who has been with the band since 1996, and Phil Demmel, who has been with the band since 2003, are both departing after one final tour. Flynn has clarified that Machine Head is not breaking up after the departures and this next tour is not the final tour for the entire band.
Now after these two statements from Flynn, Demmel has taken to his Instagram to make his own comments about leaving the band. Demmel says he's proud of his contributions to Machine Head and is honored to have had the opportunity to play with them, but feels like it's just time to move on and do something else.
No word on what Demmel will do next. I'd venture to guess that new Vio-lence is out of the question given frontman Sean Killian's health, but who knows.
"Thanks to all who have reached out and offered such positive support. 15 years in MH is a long time let alone the almost 32 years since Robb and I first started playing music together. I’m honored to have been given the opportunity to be in this band and I’m proud of my contributions over that time.
It’s simply time for me to step away and do something else musically. People naturally grow apart over time and it’s no one’s fault. It’s amazing and we’re so fortunate to have been able to it for so long. This last run will give us an opportunity to say goodbye as a group and have a sense of closure to an incredible run.
