Now, Chino Moreno Says DEFTONES Would Tour with KORN

All is fine in SoCal nu-metal land.

All is fine in SoCal nu-metal land.

This Deftones / Korn psuedo-drama has finally reached its peak. A few months ago, Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch said that his band would love to tour with Deftones, but he's pretty sure Deftones don't want to tour with Korn.

This led to Deftones frontman Chino Moreno clarifying that they did turn down tours with Korn, saying it was nothing personal, he was just avoiding the "nu-metal" label, because he knew it would be a trend that would eventually be passé, and he didn't want to be affiliated it. Apparently this led to Chino getting a ton of hate mail, as he revealed in a new interview with BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show With Daniel P Carter:

“I’m gonna go ahead and say Korn—contrary to all the hate mail I woke up to yesterday. It’s funny too, cause this is like 1998 and they [Metal Hammer] are asking me about ‘Around The Fur.’ [We] sort of made a conscious decision to try to break away from what we were trying to be shut into—not that we felt better than Korn and Limp Bizkit or any of the other bands. But we just wanted our own identity. One way of helping that was to do shows on our own and away from what we were being lumped into, so that’s all. It’s just funny how blown out of proportion people get. I would do shows with them, I would definitely do shows with them.”

The one thing I take issue with in Chino's statement is that the quote appeared in what seemed to be a new interview in Metal Hammer.

Regardless, we can clearly see how something like this can blow out of proportion, so its interesting to see Chino clarify his position. Does this mean booking agents from both bands are now structuring a double-headliner? Because I imagine a tour with both bands would do big business, although Korn don't seem to be in a touring mood as of late.
