Trent Reznor never really struck me as a funny guy, mainly because I just picture him sitting behind a bank of computers 24/7 making sweet jams that are 20 years ahead of their time. Yesterday he ruined that for me.
So, you know how fans of bands usually think they know everything there is to know about the band and the artists involved in the band? Well yesterday was no different when Trent Reznor held an hour-long AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit in honor of How To Destroy Angels debut release. Not only will I quote the question verbatim, but I'm gonna break it down for you-
Why did Trent announce a new NIN tour at the same time your new album is releasing if he is trying to not be a frontrunner of the band? Odd coincidence in my opinion.
As millionaires, why did you sign up with a record label to promote your new album? Especially when Trent has had a history of being screwed over by said labels and managers. If it’s really about the music and getting it out to as many people as possible, why not release it all for free?However, I don’t buy the “get it to as many people as possible” excuse for signing up with a label. Again, especially when Trent conveniently places a spotlight on his former cash cow a few days before your band releases this new album.

EDIT: Also, this one is for Trent. How did you manage to get back into the thought process of performing live when you had your farewell tour 3.5 years ago? Must have been hard to get back into the groove.
You know how sometimes people are so unbelievably stupid you can't even believe what you just read was an actual thought? Like, the kind of stupid where you have to wonder, "Wow. Someone actually thought that and then said, 'this makes sense. Let me share it.'" That was one of those times. Trent responds with-

If the person has a legitimate question, then maybe asking it more as a question and less like a douchey accusation is the way to go about it. Not to mention that the person conveniently tries to cover themselves by saying they "understands Trent wants to make money," only to turn around and call Trent greedy by throwing NIN in his face with the cash-cow comment, basically telling Trent he doesn't love his fans if he isn't releasing it for free, and then calling him Gene Simmons.
Right, because trying to make money on your hard work and final piece of art is a real crime and Trent is a bad person for doing so. Feel free to read through the rest of the person's responses if you're really interested to see what goes through a pompous, self-righteous internet-dwelling idiot's mind- it's not pretty.
