Ivar Bjørnson really has his plate filling up lately. Enslaved is working on a new album, he's already got Skuggsjá going with Einar Selvik of Wardruna, and now he's got a new/old project called Bardspec coming up! So what the hell is Bardspec? According to Bjørnson, it's pretty ambient and generally sparse.
Our music combines stirring, hallucinatory synth-sounds with mercurial guitar effects and hypnotic rhythms that navigate illusory landscapes. Field recordings, and other found-sounds also drift and evaporate into the ether. Working intuitively with these elements and with sharpened senses, attuned to inner impulses, this is immersive music, that can exist anywhere, and anytime within the minds of the listener.
Bardspec is largely Bjørnson, though Steve Austin of Today Is The Day is participating on guitar and effects for the coming album. Bardspec will be releasing its debut album titled Hydrogen on June 23, and you can check out a little bit of Bardspec's live performance at New York By Norse late last year below!
