Joensuu, Finland held the first ever Heavy Metal Knitting Championships on July 11, because of course Finland did. The competition is exactly what you think it is – a bunch of people knitting but also head banging to heavy metal. According to a report by Metro, the contest hosted competitors from UK, Denmark, Russia, Israel, and more. The contest was won by Giga Body Metal group from Japan, who you can see in the video below donning kimonos and employing a little sumo wrestling as well.

"Finland is the promised land of heavy metal music. There are 50 heavy metal bands per 100 000 Finnish citizens, which is astonishingly many and actually more than anywhere else in the whole world. The number of needlework enthusiasts is equally high, as according to even the most modest estimates there are hundreds of thousands of people in Finland who are immersed various kinds of needlework crafts, knitting included."
