GHOST Artist Explains The Artwork Of The New Phantomime EP

Hedi Xandt gives an in-depth look.

Phantomime Art

Ghost unveiled their new EP Phantomime on Easter Sunday and, while their Genesis cover is excellent, the artwork for the EP is stunning. Ghost has now revealed the artist behind the cover is Hedi Xandt, who offered the following explanation for their incredible piece adorning the front of Phantomime .

"My artwork always starts with the creation of a 3-dimensional digital model, no matter if the finished piece will be a print or a physical sculpture," said Xandt. "Rendering a full-fledged digital sculpture bears the opportunity to change materials, perspectives and lights at a whim – including extras like three separate face shells that can be removed to reveal the layer beneath, changing the appearance of the Phantomime – alluding to the cover songs on the EP."

In a separate post on Xandt's own Instagram reveals some working drafts and renderings of the cover, all of which are incredible to look at. Xandt reveals that the cover was created in 2022 "over a period of 6 weeks and it consist[s] of over 600 individual pieces." If you're unfamiliar with Xandt's work, you really need to check it out here.

"Rite Here Rite Now is a mostly comprehensive and extremely enjoyable—but slightly pointless—complement to Ghost's first film."
