By now, I'm sure you have heard about the tragic shooting at a Congresswoman's rally a few weeks back that left six people dead and 14 others wounded, just outside Tuscon, AZ. The shooter, Jared Lee Loughner was said to have been a heavy metal fan with early reports linking him to Drowning Pool and their big hit "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor." We joked on the RIP a Livecast that this guy may be a Metal Injection fan, and turns out we may not be that far off.
The New York Times posted some records from Loughner's community college days showing reports of the murderer being disruptive in class last year. Shockingly (for us at least), page 16 of the document includes a printout of a post from this very website announcing the lineup to last year's Mayhem Fest.
Once the shock of "why the fuck are we in this" died down, we started reading the report and saw that Loughner was being disruptive in class and wrote "Mayhem Fest!!!" on a test, resulting in somebody from the school looking up what exactly that was and finding our site. Here is the part of the report mentioning that find:
The report was just kept on file, and Loughner was removed from the class and eventually banned from the campus. Can you imagine school officials analyzing such deep and thoughtful comments on the Mayhem Fest post such as "FUCK THIS!! Normally I want the free tickets but i wouldn't attend this shit even if it was free!!"
The bottom line here is that Jared clearly has mental issues, and any suggestion that metal is somehow involved in his issues is absurd and pointless to discuss. He would've been crazy had he found metal or not. Just becuase one psycho listens to metal doesn't mean all metalheads are psycho.
