The nominations are in and after at least a decade of snubs, Iron Maiden is finally nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Other acts nominated include Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, JAY-Z, Kate Bush, Chaka Khan, DEVO, The Go-Gos, Carole King, New York Dolls, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, Fela Kuti, Mary J. Blige, Todd Rundgren and LL Cool J.
Artists are eligible to be nominated 25 years after they released their first commercial recording. Despite Maiden being around for over 40 years, this is their first time on the ballot.
Other first timers include JAY-Z, Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Fela Kuti, Carole King, and Dionne Warwick. If Foo Fighters end up getting the nod, that would make Grohl a two-time inductee, thanks to his work in Nirvana, which was already inducted. Carole King and Tina Turner would also be two-timers.
Voting has begun and the final class will be announced in May. A voting body of over 1,000 artists, historians and music industry members vote on who gets in, in addition to a fan vote. No word on when the induction ceremony would be conducted.
Last year's inductees included Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, Whitney Houston, The Notorious B.I.G., T. Rex, and The Doobie Brothers.
