Ex-METALLICA Bassist Jason Newsted Explains Why He Went Acoustic For His WOULD AND STEAL Project

"I can't play like Slipknot now; those guys are heavier and faster than I could ever dream of playing now."

If you haven't heard, Jason Newsted is finally back with an acoustic project called Would And Steal. This comes a pretty long while after Newsted cancelled all his Newsted tour dates and got off social media, but the bottom line is he's back again in a pretty unexpected way. So what's the deal with Would And Steal? Why go acoustic after essentially making a name for himself in Metallica, Voivod, Flotsam and Jetsam, and a whole slew of other great bands?

According to an interview posted by Blabbermouth, Newsted says he basically doesn't want to try and out-heavy bands like Slipknot and acoustic music makes him happy.

"I can't play like Slipknot now; those guys are heavier and faster than I could ever dream of playing now. So this is how I can play, and this is what I'll do for the rest of time.

"I always wanna play music; I have to have it in my every day, and if I don't, I'll go mad — literally. Anybody that knows me knows that. And so now as I play this, I find myself being able to expose myself to more people. I'd say age four to ninety-four can listen to this music and enjoy it. How can't you like Johnny Cash? How can't you like 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken?' You have to like those songs, American music like that."

Newsted has a good voice, and the dude came up with some great riffs in Newsted. So all signs point to this being a solid outing from Newsted.
