KORN's Guitarist Doesn't Think It Matters If Heavy Music Is In The Mainstream Anymore

Don't worry, the mainstream will find you.

Munky Korn

Nü-metal at its height was pretty much everywhere in the mainstream music world, and Korn was certainly at the top of that wave. Now in an interview with Wall Of Sound, Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer said it doesn't really matter that nü-metal's place has been taken by other forms of music because "if it's good and it's coming from a real place, they come a-knocking." Shaffer adds that once people get tired of more "synthetic" music, they'll turn their ears back toward a more rock-oriented sound anyway

"Personally, I feel like it doesn't matter because if it's good and it's coming from a real place, they come a-knocking," said Shaffer.

"Pop music has evolved into something so synthetic, it'll get to the point where it's so not real, if people crave real instruments and someone that's actually singing live, that whole thing will come around again because there'll be a need for it. And it comes in waves. And it's okay, 'cause we're not in it for the fame; we're in it for the fans."

Korn released their new record Requiem last week and is already working on a new record. We also included Korn as one of the seven nü-metal bands that should be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
