LARS ULRICH explains what a record label's role is….

Lars Ulrich - click for full viewWe've picked at METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich a lot on this website (whether it's bonding with dudes in bathroom stalls, illegally downloading his own record or just sucking as a drummer) but for once we actually agree with the man. Shocking, right? In a recent interview with the LA Times, Lars was asked if METALLICA even needs a major label anymore, to which he said:

"Without offending any of the good people from the record company in the room, no. Let's cut to the chase. . . . The primary — not the only, but the primary — function of a record label is to act as a bank. When you're fortunate enough to be successful and so on, you don't need to rely on record companies as the banks. . . .

"We're doing a bunch of shows with Trent [Reznor, NINE INCH NAILS] this summer in Europe. I look forward to sitting down and talking to him about what's on his radar."

What else can be said? When the man is right, he's right. All a label does is lend you money to spend on shit. It's all about the band's hard work and dedication. But, before this turns into a Lars LoveFest, Blabbermouth has a video of the interview and if you watch him saying the quote it comes off way more ackward, and thus hilarious.
