Are you in a band in the Atlanta area? Are you tired of having the cops called on you by your damn neighbors every single time you practice? Then let Mastodon help you out! The band will be opening a rehearsal space at the site of the old Othello Event Hall at 1170 Sylvan Road S.W. in the city sometime potentially this summer, pending city approvals and cleanup of the area all goes well.
You can also start reserving space at the building, aptly titled Ember City after the band's song of the same name, according to Bill Kelliher (via CLATL)
“Very big news for musicians in the Atlanta area, Mastodon have purchased a rehearsal building in the West End and will be looking for tenants, artists and musicians. We will be hopefully opening in the next few months, you can contact me [email protected] to sign up for the waiting list.”
Tenants? That should be… interesting. The plan for the building right now includes about 13 spaces upstairs in the building, about 6 or 7 downstairs, each of which should be somewhere between being 10' x 10' or 20' x 20'.
"Some bigger bands might just need a 6’x10′ storage space. I want there to be options. If it’s just one dude and his drum set who wants a 9’x9′ room, I want to have that. I don’t want to paint myself into a corner where every room is 10’x20′ and that’s all you can do. I want there to be options.”
Either way, this should be cool! If not a new hotbed for killer music to arise.
