Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor began singing on the band's albums starting with Crack the Skye in 2009. Dailor recently told Discogs that his singing career in the band really only started because his voice works well with poppier, less-snarly stuff.
"I guess the stuff I sing is a little more on the poppy side of music anyways because I don’t have that snarling, full timbre," he said. "My voice is more clear and rough, and you could argue that I ruined Mastodon with my voice. I’ve read that before. But that’s how I sing."
In the same post, Dailor also named his favorite drummer singers. They are as follows:
- Phil Collins (ex-Genesis, ex-Brand X)
- Karen Carpenter (The Carpenters)
- Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger)
- Peter Criss (Kiss)
- Roger Taylor (Queen)
- Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters)
- Sheila E.
- Don Henley (The Eagles)
- Levon Helm (The Band)

Mastodon is currently in the studio with producer David Bottrill working on one, maybe even two new albums.
