If we were giving out awards for headline of the year, that would certainly be at the top of the list. Twenty year old Jay Weinberg, son of legendary E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg is now the official drummer of legendary New York hardcore act Madball. Weinberg had been touring with the band the last few months and has officially joined as of this writing. He will record the band's new album with them.
You may be wondering where the hell this kid came from. I can say from personal experience, seeing him at metal shows with his dad, good metal shows. Upon doing some Wiki-research, I saw that Jay actually FILLED IN for his did during a healthy amount of Springsteen dates last year when the elder Weinberg was in LA taping Conan's Tonight Show. Here is my favorite part of the Wiki entry:
His playing with Springsteen integrated a polyrhythmic approach influenced by metal bands such as Lamb of God, Mastodon, and Slipknot with the E Street drumming style derived from big bands and early rock and roll. He received a very positive reaction from both audiences and reviewers as a re-energizing "spark plug" for the much-older band.
Surely, if the guy is good enough for Bruce, he's good enough for Freddy Madball. In fact a quick Youtube search proves he's more than qualified for the gig…
