Leave it to our friends at Metal Insider to sleuth out all the information needed (and create the silly graphic attached to this post). Yesterday, we got the exclusive scoop about a new cruise on the horizon from the Mayhem Fest creators, when Robb Flynn spilled the beans that Machine Head, Lamb of God, Anthrax and Suicide Silence will all be setting sail for a metal barge. That's all the details we had, but the Metal Insider guys went straight to the horse's mouth, Mayhem Fest found Kevin Lynman, who dished some more info on the cruise:
The floating festival will take place from December 7-11."We are just excited to get to put this together," he told [Metal Insider]. “It has been a fun process for both of us and really allows us to expand the Mayhem brand and good times.” In addition to the already-announced lineup of Lamb of God, Anthrax, Machine Head and Suicide Silence, Lyman mentioned there would be additional bands playing from Metal Blade, Sumerian, Roadrunner and Century Media.
Lynman also went on to say that Korn frontman Jonathan Davis and Slipknot DJ, Sidd Wilson will be aboard spinning on the ones and twos. There is also expected to be a Fangoria film festival curated by Slipknot's Clown.
The biggest shocker of the announcement is that this boat will be competing head on with the already announced metal cruise, Barge To Hell. Will these two cruises cannibalize each other's audiences or will there be enough metal to satisfy both cruises? I think it will be the latter, as the Barge to Hell is a much more European-centric lineup so far, where the Mayhem Fest is just pure American metal. Are you guys into this?
