The past year has been a contentious one between Mick Mars and his former Mötley Crüe bandmates. Mars filed a lawsuit against Mötley Crüe in April 2023, which has so far been going in Mars' favor (despite getting pretty nasty in the public eye).
Mars also revealed that he's since sold his publishing rights to Mötley Crüe's music, but noted in the same interview that he's heartbroken over the whole situation. And how could he not be? Lawsuits and everything aside, Mick Mars and Mötley Crüe still spent roughly four decades together. Which is why it's not too surprising that, given all that's happened, Mars is still down to write songs for Mötley Crüe.
In an interview with Audacy Check In, Mars said being in Mötley Crüe delayed his solo album for quite some time, but he'd still write with his former bandmates.
"Well, it took me 40 years 'cause Mötley was priority… and now that I'm retired, I'm just me," said Mars. "I mean, if Mötley wanted me to write songs with them again, of course I would… But right now, I'm just me, so I'm writing, and it's not Mötley, and it's how I feel — my ideas and my kind of thing and kind of trying to reinvent myself or bring myself up to date."
So who knows if that'll happen. Mötley Crüe currently has some new music on the way with John 5, and Mars has his head down working on new solo material. But it'd be nice if Mars and Crüe could maybe get together one last time and crank out something classic, yeah?
