Fans of Mötley Crüe were somewhat surprised to learn that former frontman John Corabi wouldn't be lending his vocals to Mick Mars' highly anticipated solo album, The Other Side of Mars. Now, the guitarist has shed light on the reasoning behind that decision.
In a recent interview with Marcelo Vieira of Igor Miranda, Mars revealed that Corabi's busy schedule with The Dead Daisies and his own projects posed a scheduling challenge. While Corabi initially expressed interest in collaborating, Mars sensed a hesitation in his commitment. This, coupled with Mars' desire to avoid repeating the sonic landscape of their 1994 Mötley Crüe collaboration, ultimately led to the decision to pursue other vocalists for the solo project.
"I really wanted him to sing on it, but I know he was busy with The Dead Daisies and doing these other things. I don't know… He was kind of, like, not adamant, but kind of unsure. John is a good friend of mine, and we both kind of decided that we should not repeat the '94 album. Yeah, that kind of thing. I think we made the right choice to have him not to sing, even though he's got an incredible voice."
This past October during an appearance on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk Mars explained why the songs recorded in 2016 with Corabi never made it to the album: "I felt the songs were just a little — not strong enough. And there is a certain person that kind of interfered with that. And I'm not gonna say his name, but he kind of like messed some things up. The songs were wrong, parts in there that shouldn't be there, and blah blah blah. It isn't a long story, but it was kind of like, 'That ain't gonna fly.' So I shelved it."
Ultimately, the decision to move forward without Corabi appears to have been made with mutual respect and a focus on delivering the best possible collection of songs. With Mars' legendary guitar work taking center stage, and a diverse range of guest vocalists onboard, if the first single is any indication, the album will be worth the wait.
