Dream Theater won a GRAMMY last night for their song "The Alien." Ex-Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy took to Instagram to congratulate his former bandmates saying he's "very happy" for them, to which keyboardist Jordan Rudess responded "Thanks buddy!! Thanks for hiring me many years ago!!!!" Dream Theater's GRAMMY was in the Best Metal Performance category and saw the band up against the following nominations.
- Deftones – "Genesis"
- Gojira – "Amazonia"
- Mastodon – "Pushing The Tides"
- Rob Zombie – "The Triumph Of King Freak (A Crypt Of Preservation And Superstition)"
- Dream Theater – "The Alien"
Dream Theater and Portnoy seem to be getting along extremely well these days. Portnoy recently attended his first Dream Theater show as a fan and not a band member, where he got a shout out from the stage by vocalist James LaBrie.
