The Mötley Crüe and Third Eye Blind beef in the "Uncle Jim and Aunt Susie in Duluth" episode of Pam & Tommy? It never happened.
The episode aired on February 16 and played out an issue where Mötley Crüe was pissed because they got bumped down to a smaller studio in 1996. So Tommy Lee barges into the bigger studio that got taken from them and runs into Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins, who explains that their shared label Elektra booked the bigger studio for them and not Mötley Crüe. Executive producer Rob Siegel said he chose the band because they were both on the same label, but confirms the events never actually happened.
"I felt like that was the perfect band" said Siegel in an interview with Variety. "I did a little quick Google search, what label was Mötley Crüe on? Elektra. Who else was on Elektra? Third Eye Blind. The timing was perfect. In 1996 they're working on their debut album. So the scene is fictional, but I like to think it absolutely could have happened!"
"Mötley Crüe and I've never been in the same studio," added Jenkins. "I recorded my whole first album in Northern California. So we were across the state from each other at the very least."
So y'know, at least there's still a chance we could get Mötley Crüe covering "Semi-Charmed Life" or Third Eye Blind tackling "Kickstart My Heart." The new episode of Pam & Tommy "Pamela in Wonderland" will air on February 23.
Mötley Crüe will hit the road this June with Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts.
