Vinyl collecting can get expensive pretty quickly, and nobody knows that better than the folks collecting data over at Discogs. The site recently published an article called "New Vinyl Released in 2023 That Instantly Became Collector's Gold" and it's got a surprising amount of rock and metal records.
Coming in at No. 3 is Alice In Chains' recent Dirt box set, which is going for at least $425 and hasn't been sold for less than $400. Then at Nos. 4 and 7 are the recent and extremely limited Wax Vessel pressings of Thy Art Is Murder's Infinite Death, which at the minimum is going for $300 and hasn't been sold for less than $350.
Then there's the Peaceville deluxe pressing of Darkthrone's A Blaze In The Northern Sky for $380 at No. 11 with alternate artwork and (of course) limited to 666 hand-numbered copies, and interestingly a CD box set of Thin Lizzy's Live And Dangerous at No. 19 for $292.
And if you're wondering, the No. 1 record on the list is a limited pressing of The New Folk Sound Of Terry Callier by Terry Callier. That one is averaging $1,074 and currently has a few for sale starting at $749. So if you've got some money to burn, or you're the world's biggest Terry Callier fan, go nuts.
