Megadeth disbanded on April 3, 2002 after vocalist and guitarist Dave Mustaine was diagnosed with radial neuropathy. Mustaine worked on a solo album throughout the next two years, but thanks to contractual obligations, had to release it as Megadeth. That record was The System Has Failed in 2004, and Megadeth has been back together ever since.
