Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor has performed plenty of solo shows over the years, though they've always been cover songs and they're usually accompanied by friends. Now Taylor has revealed to Eddie Trunk in a new interview that he's seriously considering doing a solo album and solo tour. Taylor says he already spoke to his bandmates in both Slipknot and Stone Sour, and would love to get out on the road in support of the effort alongside the album's release.
Taylor projects both of these things will happen in 2021.
"I'm actually giving serious thought to doing a solo album and a solo run. Obviously, it's not gonna happen for a while. And I'm actually giving you the exclusive, 'cause I haven't told anybody that I was gonna do that… Honestly, it's something that I didn't even consider for a long time until people just keep beating me up about it, asking me when I was gonna do it. And the more they kept asking, the more I just kept thinking about it, the more I was just, like, 'You know what? If I don't do it now, I'm never gonna do it.' So, yeah, probably 2021. I'm actually putting a band together. I've already told the guys in Stone Sour and Slipknot that I'm doing it, just out of respect. And, yeah, I'm gonna start working on a solo album. That's all I'll give you for now. But, yeah, that's the plan as of right now."
It'll be interesting to see where Taylor goes with his solo music in terms of if he'll keep things acoustic, or do his own version of a rock band outside what he's been doing with his two bands. His statement "I'm actually putting a band together" makes me think the latter, but who knows.
In the meantime, Slipknot just released their new album We Are Not Your Kind and have announced the beginnings of their 2020 touring schedule.
