SOUNDGARDEN Aims To Drop A New Album In Late 2017

Soundgarden's comeback album in 2012, King Animal, was clearly not a one-off reunion record. The band said in 2015 it would be writing a new album throughout the year, and while that may have held true, we didn't see it in 2016.

Guitarist for the group Kim Thayil said to Detroit radio station WRIF that we won't see it in early 2017 either, but likely sometime later in the year.

"We're shooting [to release it in] late 2017. We've already done some writing. We have some more writing to do, and then there's the whole studio process. Some people whip out albums in a few weeks or a few months, and Soundgarden, given our different schedules, it takes a matter of months. We do something for a few weeks and then come back a few months later, or a month later, and revisit it."

Honestly, I think the majority of Soundgarden fans are perfectly content with the band's first 5 albums. King Animal was a nice surprise, and I'm sure whatever the band comes up with next will be at the very least solid as well, but we waited nearly 20 years between Down On The Upside and King Animal. Five years isn't going to kill us.
