As we already know, the metal community has been very loud about the political climate since Donald Trump has taken office in the United States. Even further, the hate and violence stirred in his wake has caused some movement amongst well-minded musicians into doing something positive. One of those bands is New York's own, Sun & Flesh, who are donating all of the proceeds of their track "Heaven" to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Sun & Flesh Comments:
We never thought we were a political band, but we can no longer take this sitting down.
It’s not only Charlottesville. Rallies and parades of swastikas spread Anti-Semitic, racist, sexist, homo- and trans-phobic hate rhetoric throughout this country and around the world.THERE IS NO ROOM FOR COMPLACENCY ANYMORE
You can stand with Sun & Flesh by jamming their track Heaven via streaming services, as well as purchasing it via iTunes. You can also see them live in Brooklyn, NY at Knitting Factory where the band plans to give proceeds of their show to the SPLC as well.
The band also urges folks to donate to the SPLC directly at their website.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality. They monitor hate groups and other extremists throughout the United States and expose their activities to the public, the media and law enforcement. The SPLC is dedicated to reducing prejudice, improving intergroup relations and supporting equitable school experiences for our nation's children.
