Guns N' Roses music video for "November Rain" is currently sitting at 1.4 billion views on Youtube, and that has us wondering just how many of those views came from U.S. President Donald Trump and the White House. A new book from former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders reveals that Trump considers the music video "the great music video of all time."
Newsweek reports Trump played the legendary song at his rally this week, and has been trying to get the track on his playlist for a long time. Two years to be exact.
In her new book, Speaking for Myself: Faith, Freedom, and the Fight of Our Lives, Sanders wrote that on her first day at her new post, Trump brought her and the person she was replacing, Hope Hicks, into the oval office saying he wanted the track added to his rally playlist and made them sit and watch the music video. Sanders writes:
He told us it was the "greatest music video of all time," and made us watch it to prove his point, even though neither of us had disagreed.
Actually, a quick video search shows he's been playing the song at his rallies for a while. Guns N' Roses frontman Axl Rose has repeatedly stated that he does not give permission to the campaign to play his music. Trump can play the music through a blanket license loophole but Rose was none too happy about it, tweeting in 2018 "Personally I kinda liked the irony of Trump supporters listening to a bunch of anti Trump music at his rallies but I don’t imagine a lot of ‘em really get that or care," adding “Most of us in America have never experienced anything this obscene at this level in [our] lifetimes [and] if we as a country don’t wake up [and] put an end [to] this nonsense now, it’s something we definitely will all pay hard [for] as time goes on.”
Trump has previously also played "Sweet Child O' Mine" and, ironically, "Live N' Let Die." In response, GNR started selling charity shirts that said "Live N' Let Die with COVID 45."
At least I can say I agree with the President on one thing – Guns N' Roses "November Rain" is in fact the greatest music video of all time.
“November Rain” played at Trump Michigan rally tonight. @SarahHuckabee writes in her book about how Trump added it to the playlist in 2018 and made SHS and Hope Hicks watch the Guns n Roses video in the Oval Office because it was the “greatest music video of all time.” pic.twitter.com/67T2veDdoS
