Quick Review: ANTHRAX For All Kings [7" Box Set]

We already reviewed this album upon initial release early last year, but this new box set is worth a quick check in for a number of reasons: first there is the almost deliriously collectible packaging (above), which splits the album across no less than ten 7" records, each with their own slipcase featuring unique artwork by comic book/graphic novel heavyweight Alex Ross. The 7" records are housed in a slipcase with its own lenticular cover, which itself features Ross' original artwork from For All Kings.

For those digiphiles who aren't terribly impressed with physical collector's items, however, the boon here will consist of the bevy of bonus tracks (which the vinyl aficionados won't likely turn up their noses at, either). Six of these bonus tracks are demos appended to the b-side of their respective album track, but there are some unreleased goodies as well: a pretty amazing run through of the White Stripes classic "Black Math", which lends itself surprisingly well to a punked-up thrash rendition, and a (kinda superfluous) cover of the Kansas staple "Carry On (Wayward Son)". The other notable inclusion is "Vice of the People", a For All Kings session outtake previously only released in Japan. It's a catchy, pretty basic standard issue Anthrax tune that would have probably gotten lost within the consistently stellar track listing of its parent album, but sounds like pure fire for those who have already exhausted the album proper.
