Bob Nalbandian

Metal journalist, documentarian, and historian Bob Nalbandian has passed away after a battle with mantle cell lymphoma. Nalbandian originally founded the fanzine The Headbanger in 1982 and wrote for such esteemed publications as Creem, Hit Parader, and Music Connection. Nalbandian is also credited as the person who put Marty Friedman and Megadeth in touch, resulting in a slew of classic riffs and solos through the '90s.

Nalbandian's incredible résumé also included working with Roadrunner Records, Century Media, and Music For Nations, as well as directing and co-producing documentaries like the Inside Metal series and Band Vs Brand. In more recent years, Nalbandian founded the Shockwaves Skullsessions and Shockwaves/HardRadio podcasts.

"Sad news today, my friend Bob Nalbandian, the metal legend who helped me find Marty Friedman, has passed away," said Megadeth's Dave Mustaine. "We will miss you terribly, Bob. My sincere condolences to his family and friends."

"With deep shock and sadness, we here offer our condolences for our friend Bob Nalbandian who passed today," said former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson. "Bob was one of the first metal historian journalists I met when I moved to LA in 1983. A true friend, fan, supporter and lover of all things heavy metal, he did so much for our community and will be deeply missed."
