We have seen a lot of live tributes to the late Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, who sadly took his life last week, but this may be the first recorded tribute we've come across in metal. Not only did they do an amazing job with their touching and unique tribute to Cornell, but the fact that Aaron and Brandon of 7 Horns 7 Eyes, Jeff Loomis of Arch Enemy, and Adon Fanion of Ghost Ship Octavius came together to record a tribute to Chris Cornell is especially heart warming, considering how busy each of these bands are with their own music.
What an amazing cover, right!? We caught up with Aaron Smith of 7 Horns 7 Eyes who commented on the tribute song –
“Chris Cornell's influence on artists across the musical spectrum has been profound, and I am no exception to his reach. As a Seattle kid in middle school being exposed to rock music, Soundgarden was always a standout, and as I've matured, Chris' passion and talent has reached what feels like an iconic status in my mind. With the news of his passing hitting me much harder than I anticipated, it immediately inspired me to complete a "Black Hole Sun" cover I'd left on the back burner for a few years. It's the best way I know how to personally honor his life and career, and I'm thankful that some of my friends (also living in the Seattle area) were eager to contribute as well, in our best effort to pay our respects. Chris is gone, but we hope this song will serve as a reminder that his influence lives on through so many of us!”
