High on Fire wildman and Sleep guitarist Matt Pike released his first ever solo album, Pike vs. The Automaton, back in February of this year, and now to go along with the album, he's just announced a tour of the US starting this November.
“Actions speak louder than words,” Pike said in a statement about the trek. “We’re going to let our music do the talking. See you at the shows.”
Pike did go a little deeper at length about his solo debut at the time of its release, however stating, “I definitely think it’s interesting; it has D-Beat punk, two-step… It’s got everything and it still works together, it doesn’t sound odd. It’s just an off-the-wall psychedelic rock record.” Pike then ripped shit up on the West Coast this past May, alongside drummer Jon Reid, bassist Chad "Chief" Hartgrave, guitarist Chris Evans (Lord Dying).
Additionally, the Sleep guitarist just recently named the songs people should listen to to get into the seminal stoner rock outfit.
"I always thought 'Dragonaut' was good. But, I don't know, nowadays I'd probably play 'The Clarity'… or 'Holy Mountain' because the 'Holy Mountain' tone, I'm still trying to get that back. I know the secret, but I still can't get the same recording. There's just something about that … that's like, Fuck. If you put on Dopesmoker, you might lose their interest … That's after you'd heard the band for a little bit and you're like, Oh OK, this is the masterpiece thing or whatnot." Sleep reissued the stoner classic Dopesmoker this year through their new record label, the Jack White-owned Third Man Records.
