What an insane day. Five years after Slayer broke up, the band announced their triumphant return in 2024 as headliners for Louder Than Life. But that's not all!
Turns out Slayer is also one of the headliners for Riot Fest 2024 on September 22. Slayer has still not offered any official comment on their reunion (or headlining festival slots, or whatever you wanna call it) outside a brief caption on their Instagram that reads "It gets you when you least expect it."
So who the hell is in Slayer 2024? It's exactly who was in Slayer 2019 when they broke up – Tom Araya on bass and vocals, guitarists Kerry King and Gary Holt, and Paul Bostaph on drums.
"Nothing compares to the 90 minutes when we're on stage playing live, sharing that intense energy with our fans. And to be honest, we have missed that," said Araya.
Added King: "Have I missed playing live? Absolutely. Slayer means a lot to our fans; they mean a lot to us. It will be five years since we have seen them."
Are we thrilled Slayer is back? Of course. Are we confused because Kerry King just finally announced his solo project that seemed to be the next step in his career after Slayer ended? Also yes. So who knows what this all means and how King is gonna balance his solo band and Slayer, pending more shows.
As of right now, Slayer's two reunion dates are:
9/22 – Riot Fest – Chicago, IL
9/27 – Louder Than Life – Louisville, KY
