At The Gates has officially entered the studio with Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Dimmu Borgir) for its follow up to 2014's At War With Reality. Frontman Tomas Lindberg says Russell can bring the "sheer loud, blunt heaviness" the band is looking for right now, and that the new music is "darker, richer and more raging" than At War With Reality. Personally, I liked At War With Reality but I just wish it were shorter than 13 tracks; it just went on forever.
Lindberg also compares the album's mood and lyrics to the band's 1992 debut The Red in the Sky Is Ours, which is super promising.
We are finally hitting the studio and are super excited about this! The songs have been worked on in such detail for the last 7 months and we can´t wait to put them down to tape. Russ Russell was actually the runner up for mixing ‘At War With Reality‘, and we really wanted to work with him on this one.
He has what we are looking for when it comes to sheer loud, blunt heaviness. This is going to be a darker, richer and more raging album than the last one. It has so much more real ATG emotions on display, and I would say, it has the same approach lyrically as the feeling of ‘The Red In The Sky Is Ours‘. More of a RED album, than a BLUE one. Can´t wait for people to hear it!
This will also be At The Gates first album with guitarist Jonas Stålhammar of God Macabre & The Lurking Fear. It's probably worth noting that Stålhammar wrote all of God Macabre's sole album The Winterlong.
