Converge released their last proper studio album The Dusk In Us in 2017, followed by Bloodmoon: I featuring Chelsea Wolfe, Stephen Brodsky, and Ben Chisholm in 2021. Despite the long gap between releases, Converge guitarist and producer Kurt Ballou confirmed the band will continue writing and recording new material in an interview The New Scene.
"I don't know when we can expect a new record. But we are writing material and when we have enough material to record an album, we will record an album, and then we will release it. That's pretty much how it goes in Converge. So we're not on any kind of schedule or needing to get anything out by a certain time, but we do wanna keep writing and releasing music.
"The current thing that we're working on right now is making sure that all of our back catalog is all in print. And the next one up I think is the Dusk In Us, which I think is the most recent proper Converge album. But we have a new version of the deluxe album that's gonna have some recent live material on it; that's in the works."
So what's the new material sound like? According to a recent Instagram post from drummer Converge Ben Koller, it's got one of the heaviest riffs the band has ever written. "Converge may have just written the heaviest riff of our career. Bunch of new songs in the slow cooker. Smelling real good so far. Rehearsal was about 10x better this time around thanks to my 3 new favorite toys: Tama Drums birch/walnut kit, Liquid Death SJC Drums snare, and the Yamaha Music EAD10."
