Devildriver will release their country covers album Outlaws 'Til the End on June 6, but prior to that, the band's last original studio album came out in 2016. While 2018 won't be the year that situation gets remedied, frontman Dez Fafara tells Metal Wani that they're writing a double album due out in 2019 and 2020 right now.
Fafara says Devildriver will hit the studio in June, and as of right now they've about 48 songs written. He adds they'll whittle that down to about 20 or 22 songs for the albums.
"We're writing the record of our lives right now — that I can tell you. And making no bones about it, this will be the record of our career. This will be the record that other artists judge us, as well as themselves, on once they hear this."
"[The fans are] gonna get a record a year [in reference to Outlaws 'Til The End], which means you're gonna a record this year. You're gonna get a record in 2019, and you're gonna get a record in 2020. And that's the way art should be."
It seems like a solid idea to split up the album into two separate releases as well. This way you get double the marketing, double the eyes on the material, and of course tons of solid opportunities to tour.
