Ever since Dream Theater's 2003 record Train of Thought, the band has been releasing a new album every other year like steady clockwork (unlike the oddly timed nature of progressive rock). The group's last album was in 2013 so here's a major surprise! Dream Theater is going to be hitting up the studio next month to begin work on record number 13.
Vocalist James LaBrie revealed to Simcoe that the band plans to enter the studio next month with a release planned for this fall.
The record will be the third to feature drummer Mike Mangini and the second he's taken part in the writing process for. Considering 2013's Dream Theater was a throwback to Train of Thought's heaviness, I'm really hoping his contributions continue to guide the band back along the path of heaviness! Not to say the rest of the members of the group aren't into their fair share of metal as well- have you ever heard vocalist James LaBrie's solo stuff? It's also well known that guitarist John Petrucci loves him some Animals As Leaders as well, which is kind of awesome.
